Providing high quality, affordable childhood education since 1946

We are a nonprofit preschool owned and operated by the parents of currently enrolled students. Parents are responsible for all aspects of the school’s administration and oversight. We employ a qualified teacher, serve on the Board of Directors, serve on committees, conduct business at parents meetings, and take turns assisting the teacher in the classroom.

We work hard to keep tuition costs low so that our program is affordable for the families in our community. Parents support our school through fundraising and we are thankful for the generous organizations in our community that donate funds and in-kind gifts.

Our school accepts children of all colors, race and creed at their own level of development. Most of our learning is done through play (songs, games, free exploration and discussion). We strive to create a comfortable learning environment that fosters healthy social skills and a lifelong love of learning.

Meet Teacher Allyson

Teacher Allyson has been involved with Oregon City Preschool since 2010, with both her children attending. She fell in love with the philosophy of the school and the community feel it brought.

She was the teacher assistant from 2013-2016 before leaving the school to finish her degree in Early Childhood Education and Family Studies. Teacher Allyson filled in as a sub occasionally when needed.

When our long term teacher planned to retire in 2021 after 21 years of service, Allyson was hired as head teacher. She is only the fourth head teacher we’ve had since our school was founded in 1946.

“I fell in love with the community feel and how parents were encouraged to be part of their child’s education. When you are a parent of a cooperative preschool you get to be part of your child’s learning process and see how they work with other children and adults. You are watching them build their own community.”

What happens during a typical school day?

Our school days follow a predictable rhythm, which is comforting to both our students and our parent volunteers. During a typical day, our students will participate in:

Art Room
We teach the child to have fun with art and be creative. We explore their creative side through many different mediums. We use paint, glue, scissors, fabric, wood, and much more.

Front Room
We explore different skills involving colors, shapes, puzzles, numbers, sequencing, patterning, and language development.

Circle Rug Room
We have group time for music, sharing time, unit study and listening to our friends. We practice sitting in a circle and following directions.

Free Time
A time for the child to explore and learn on his/her own. To use their own-imagination and develop self-confidence.

Outside Time
We all go outside every day to get some fresh air. We walk, run around, observe the outdoors, and work on large motor skills.

Snack Time
On co-op days, parent helpers are to supply a nutritious snack. Snacks will consist of a protein, carbohydrate, and vegetable/fruit. The school will provide water each class day.

Preschoolers are encouraged to put their own snack on their plate, as well as pour their own beverage into their cup. At the end of snack, children will load their dishes into the dishwasher. Snack time is another great opportunity to provide a learning experience.

Each year food sensitivities will dictate what will be allowed to be served.

Homemade treats are acceptable.
